Renewable Energy Certificates, or RECs, are legal instruments used to track the production and delivery of renewable energy. Anytime you hear or read of your favorite company, brand, or organization using renewable energy they are in fact using RECs. In the US, you must purchase RECs to genuinely and authentically tout the use of renewable energy.  

Beyond their legal role, RECs play a vital role in the development, growth, and longevity of renewable energy because RECs provide critical financial incentives to renewable energy projects, like solar, wind, and hydro.  

When you enroll in Sustainable Choice, Sol Systems ensures that your estimated or actual energy usage is matched with renewable energy supply by purchasing RECs from wind, solar, and other renewable sources. 

Matching your energy consumption with RECs, achieves several important outcomes. First, your REC purchase improves the economics of existing and future renewable energy projects. This in turn maintains the renewable energy we have today and spurs the development of more renewable energy. As more renewable energy is delivered to the grid over time, older sources of fossil fuel energy are pushed out. This results in a cleaner, lower carbon energy supply, an important part of mitigating climate change.
